Ein Sarg nur und ein Leichenkleid

Death and its predetermined finality requires us to become aware of our final fate. We face serious challenges when we are confronted with death. It is an event that shocks us at any time, despite the fact that death is omnipresent in our lives. It occurs quietly and widely unnoticed by others in institutions and in small circles of directly affected persons.

We must overcome the speechlessness in dealing with death. The work aims at developing an understanding for the manifestation of death in our lives and wants to make parts of the process after we die visible. The photographic works confront us with issues that we like to block out of our everyday live. They show that death is a part of our lives and try to evolve an awareness in the viewer for what happens after we die.

I worked a period of about two years at the Brandenburg State Institute of Forensic Medicine. At the same time I photographed in a crematorium at the Old Cemetery in Potsdam. After that I continued my work at the Bestattungsinstitut Dieckmann (funeral home) and Feuerbestattuns GMbH Brandenburg an der Havel.
